Who is the CELTA for?
The CELTA course is for those who want to become professional English teachers:
- You don’t need to have previous experience in teaching.

What is the criteria for enrolling on the CELTA course?
In order to apply for the CELTA course you should:
- Have a standard of English which will enable you to teach at a range of levels (Minimum CEFR Level high C1 or above).
- Have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into higher education.
- Be aged 18 or over.

What is the difference between the CELTA course modalities?
- 100% online – asynchronous Input + TP synchronous
- asynchronous blended – asynchronous Input + TP face to face
- 100% online synchronous
- Face-to-face.
1. The 100% online course – asynchronous input + synchronous TP.
It is given as a combination of asynchronous online trainer led instruction of the theory of the course while the practical part is conducted online in real time.
Only the practical is carried out in real time via Zoom, once a week in the extensive format or over 2 weeks, Monday to Friday, in the intensive one.
The asynchronous theoretical part is conducted online on Cambridge’s learning platform, where you are at liberty to organise your own study time. The coursework is overseen by one of our experienced tutors. During the course you will have tutorials and live meetings to provide you with support and guidance.
2. The asynchronous blended – asynchronous input + Presential TP.
It is given as a combination of asynchronous online delivery of the theory of the course while the practical part is conducted face-to-face.
Only the practical part is carried out intensively, face-to-face, over 2 weeks, Monday to Friday.
The asynchronous theoretical part is conducted online on Cambridge’s learning platform, where you are at liberty to organise your own study time. The coursework is overseen by one of our experienced tutors. During the course you will have tutorials and live meetings to provide you with support and guidance.
Both on the 100% online and the blended courses will you be teaching groups of real adult students. After the class you will receive feedback on your teaching. This is carried out in a relaxed and friendly manner and usually leads to amazing insights about the learning teaching process.
3. The 100% online synchronous.
Both the theoretical and the practical parts are given online in real time via Zoom
You will attend dynamic, training sessions online in real time on Zoom, led by our team of experienced CELTA tutors.
The teaching practice will take place in Zoom classrooms for groups of real adult students. After the class you will receive feedback on your teaching. This is carried out in a relaxed and friendly manner and usually leads to amazing insights about the learning teaching process.
4. The presential face-to-face CELTA:
Both teaching practice and input are given face-to-face at our centre in Sao Paulo with the same content as the other course formats.
The 100% online synchronous and face-to-face is given both as part-time and full-time courses.
What happens on the CELTA course?
- Six hours’ assessed teaching practice per candidate supervised by a course tutor;
- Feedback on teaching;
- Input;
- Supervised lesson planning;
- Peer observation;
- Observation of experienced teachers (minimum 6 hours);
- Four written assignments.
Course length – 120 hours
Candidates will need to dedicate about 80 hours to the required reading research, pre- and post- session tasks, assignments and lesson preparation.
How will I be assessed on the CELTA course?
The assessment for you to obtain the Cambridge CELTA certificate is based on your performance in:
- Teaching Practice
You will be observed teaching 6 hours to adults at a minimum of 2 levels of ability.
Assessment is based on your overall performance. - Written assignments
You will complete four written assignments with 750 – 1000 words each.
The assignment topics are:
- Analysing and responding to adults learner needs;
- Analysing language for teaching purposes;
- Teaching language skills;
- Reflecting on classroom teaching.
There are three different grades: Pass A, Pass B and Pass.

How to enroll on the CELTA course?
To enroll on the CELTA course you need to go through an Application process which includes a Language Awareness Task plus an interview in English with the main course tutor via Zoom. In the interview the tutor will let you know if you are able to do the CELTA course.
